Default first temp - 08-08-2012, 02:16 AM

first temp, took me about a week to paint, i used a quick reference images stitch as base and color picking guide, after that brushwork began. havent done the planets, sun is temp light shadow guide, it is all still waiting to be smudged especially obvious brush strokes, and than into details again and again ;)

added more upper atmosphere thin clouds layers, some shadows from small cumulus clouds enhanced larger planet and sun, i am quite satisfied with composition

Hi. As a painting, this is not bad, but you have to realize that this in fact is a digital matte painting challenge and therefore realism is KEY. Which I kind of lack here...

matte painter * concept artist

Hi Pavel, thank you for your comment, you are right.
it is really hard to get even close to photo look by just painting it. shapes created by brush strokes are more thoughtfull and follow artists logic that tends towards simplifying shapes and miss random detail that happens in nature.
i have decided to use some photoelements to enhance the realism, will update the new wip soon

I agree with Pavel. But the importance of the hand painting to estabilish an overall feeling of the scene and personal creation is great. Sometimes itīs not an option in daily work with matte painting.. altough it would be nice to have all of its parts in the workflow: line composition, color scheme, concept matte painting and the matte painting itself.

replaced most of painted clouds with photo material, need to do some more details in bg, need to add more realistic upper atmosphere, needs some lighting treatment and color tweaks
