Position: Digital Matte Painter – RSP
Employment period: Immediate start, with an end date to be negotiated.
Location: Adelaide, Australia. Work permit will be applied for on behalf of successful applicant if required.

RSP is seeking a highly skilled Digital Matte Painter (DMP), with live-action and feature film experience to join our team. Applicants should have demonstrated experience working on high profile feature film projects, adept at creating realistic and aesthetically pleasing DMP’s. Matte Painters at RSP enjoy some degree of autonomy, while ever mindful of the show requirements.

In this role you will be required to create photo-realistic matte paintings from sources such as live-action plates, digital still photographs, rendered CG elements and self-created digital paintings. Your final work will essentially be believable images, that can be seamlessly integrated into the film.

• Create photo realistic digital matte paintings in line with supervisor and client direction.
• Create look development and concept artwork where required.
• Provide regular updates to your direct supervisor, informing them of any issues that may affect progress and offering solutions as necessary.
• Collaborate with other digital asset creation departments to build exceptional shot elements.
• Utilise your advanced technical and creative knowledge to resolve color space, digital-paint, depth and lighting issues in order to complete assigned work.
• Add to existing matte painting and environment toolset.
• Maintain professional and courteous communication skills, irrespective of production pressures, tight deadlines and shifting creative briefs.
• Be approachable and open to constructive feedback while maintaining a collaborative outlook.
• Maintain integrity and structure of workflow and naming conventions.
• Maintain self-discipline, strong organization and time management practices.

• Minimum 4-years feature film experience creating photo realistic matte paintings and stunning concept art.
• Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop including file management (file format, bit depth, resolution) is essential.
• Maintain a personal artistic portfolio covering form, composition and illustrative work.
• Demonstrated understanding of real world environments with a strong eye for lighting and composition details.
• Ability to understand the artistic and technical direction required to exceed client expectation.
• A strong understanding and application of perspective and camera projection in the creation of the 2.5D and 3D digital environments.
• Practical experience with compositing tools in Nuke is desirable.
• Technical and creative problem solving and can-do mindset.
• Excellent communication skills.
