Hi everyone. My latest attempt at a matte painting. This was also my first attempt at projecting the piece onto 3d geometry, using Blender. I'm posting this to the "showcase forum" because I'm done working on it, but any comments, critique, or tips would be greatly appreciated. Here's the breakdown:
Hey Jadrien, nice work! I like the shapes you've used and the depth you've created.
My criticisms are maybe the image needs something of more interest on the right to balance it, and that the shadows under the trees are too black. Maybe they should look slightly blue as well, think about all the light bouncing around under the trees. Black would mean there is almost no light. Also, the isolated tree on the left could use some shadow under it too.
I think the camera move you've chosen could be more subtle, maybe it moves in too many directions at once at the moment.
Thanks Dante, I really appreciate the feedback. Now that you've mentioned it, the shadows under those trees do seem rather harsh/black. Since it won't be a big fix I'll probably ease them out a little bit and try tinting them a blueish hue like you suggested. Thanks again for the critique!
