This piece is a bit different from typical matte painting, in that it will be printed on canvas at 34x16 feet and used as a backdrop in a stage show at an amusement park. I rendered it in Corel Photopaint in about 11 hours, without any photo-sourcing (nothing wrong with it, just not something I do very often).
The left and right quarters of the image will usually be covered with curtains, so I focused most of my detailing on the center portion. Some of the tree shapes could be better, and there are some regretable compositional choices, but for something banged out on little notice in one weekend, I'm pretty happy with it.
