This piece is a bit different from typical matte painting, in that it will be printed on canvas at 34x16 feet and used as a backdrop in a stage show at an amusement park. I rendered it in Corel Photopaint in about 11 hours, without any photo-sourcing (nothing wrong with it, just not something I do very often).

The left and right quarters of the image will usually be covered with curtains, so I focused most of my detailing on the center portion. Some of the tree shapes could be better, and there are some regretable compositional choices, but for something banged out on little notice in one weekend, I'm pretty happy with it.

You should take a photo of this, on the stage with curtains...
And post it here. It will be even more impressive.

And if it was more toward photo realistic look, it would be a nice scene for
Underworld 3.

It seems to me that with the lighting (and loss of light) that the oranges are a bit too ramped up, no? Not sure how they'd keep that saturation, but I think you've got a wonderful start... any thoughts on the orange/leaves?

yeah, if I were going for total realsim I would've muted the leaves quite a bit, but as cartoony as the style is, I figured I could get away with using some color down there. It's a client I've worked for previously, so I have an idea of what their taste is, and try to match it from the outset rather than having to go back and forth with revisions. If I'd painted the moonlight realistically, I'm certain they would've asked for more color :)
