Hey everybody. For you ILMers I'm up at Licensing but learning digimatte. So loving it. Just getting started.

So since you all are the experts I'm gonna pick your brains. In terms of this painting, specifically about the lighting, who decides the actual lighting because the background guys seem as though they would have darker shadows similar to the foreground fellows, and if you track the line of the light past the wall, the shadow would cover a lot more than is represented. Was the decision made to lighten background elements to have a contrast with the darker foreground camel riding folk?

Let me say again how nice this piece is. I'm just interested in the choices made in doing the paintings to enhance the scene.

Any info would be enlightening while I am starting this new process.

im not sure what shadows youre talking about but diferent shapes cast diferent sizes. as for the shadow being lighter in the distance, thats normal. if you look at shadows in a mountain near by, the shadows are dark, but the distant ones look hazy and a little blue-ish. its atmospheric perspective, a spatial indicator :oops: :?
