Hey everyone!

Just giving this thread an update with my first "real" cityscape. It was hard, but great fun and I learnt TONS of new stuff. I could have worked on this forever but I called it done because I have alot of school stuff to do and I want to have new matte paintings to work on.
Feels good to finally have made a cityscape atleast. :)

Take care & thanks for looking,

-Alexander I

Hi guys,

Here's a new matte painting. It's been awhile since my last one.
I tried some new things with this one. Wanted some kind of "magical" little feel to it.

Comments & critique is more than welcome.

Thanks for looking,

-Alexander Isaksson

Hello all,

Here is a super quick matte painting that I spent a few hours on just to finish something before 2013 ends.

I shot the plate when I was in Scotland earlier this year and the clouds in my hometown a year ago.

Where the black "mask" is I imagined some sort of live action footage of an army (perhaps some orcs)

Happy new year everyone :)

Thanks for looking,
-Alexander I

Hey guys,

A new little exercise I did this weekend.
Quite simple but wanted to practice on 'invisible/subtle' matte paintings.

Thanks for looking,

-Alexander I

Hello all,

Here is my latest matte painting (school project) with a camera projection. First time I did this "sort" of projection so the main goal was to get the projection to work properly. I still had regular days/lessons whilst working on this so I only had time to work on it in my sparetime.

I used Maya, Mental Ray/VRay, NUKE, Photoshop and AE(for the blowing sand)

Special thanks to Carl Edlund for helping me understand camera projections. :)

Hio all,

Here is a quick little set extension-ish practice.

The last matte painting I did was almost no Photoshop, compared to Maya/Nuke, so thought I would just do something in PS. :)

Thanks for looking,

-Alexander I

Nice one Alex, next time you should try to track the camera forward or just pull out to reveal more parallax. As for the matte painting, I think you could have had some atmosphere like fog / mist porjected on to the cards / planes to feel the depth. I feel your blacklevels and saturations in the midground are a bit off and finally you could have also rendered out something like Ambient Occlusion for the final projection to get some more shadows and depth in there.

keep up the good work and I am looking forward to your next one.

Cheers,
Rahul

Hey guys,

@rockhopper, thanks alot man I appreciate it.

@metalrahul, Thanks for the feedback man. I agree that there are some things in the midground area that are a bit off. So much to learn!

Thanks again guys :)
