Default Need critiques - 05-21-2007, 06:44 AM

I'm currently working on a painting and need some critiques to get it done.

Here is the original photo:

Here is what I have done with it.

This is still a WIP. I'm going for an early afternoon type setting and not so much a dramatic lit picture.

Thanks for the help!!!

Looks good so far mate! Everything integrates pretty nicely. I think at the moment the castle is too contrasty for the distance it is away from camera. I think you should play with the contrast and see if it helps.

Nick

Yeah, definitely play with the contrast. also maybe fuzz up the horizon line a bit and maybe add a dominant structure in the castle? Or make it bigger. Either way. nice job though!

Thanks for the reply and critiques guys. I took your advice and went back to play with the contrast of the main castle and then added some more haze on the horizon line. Should I continue to lower the contrast on the main castle than what I already have? Maybe add some blueish undertones to push it back further?

Here is the updated picture:

Thanks again!

The castle looks like it is on a slant. Check i's roof(?) level against the ocean's horizon line.

Hi tgrant

i think you have a problem of scaling ... the castle is too small for the environement that is surrounding it... also maybe a design improvement would help your image... there no 2 towers the same..look at french castles photos...

overall it looks good!

Cheers!

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'll redesign the castle to make it bigger overall and make it a bit more architecturally appealing. I'll post something tomorrow hopefully.

Thanks again!

Well after not being able to work on this for a few weeks now, I've finally had some free time to work on this picture. I wanted to make the composition more interesting overall. This is still a WIP. Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
-T.J.

Hi tgrant..

Thats a big improvement

I would remove the tower on the foreground... it takes away the interest of your castle. also maybe try to draw only horizontal lines on the castle to suggest the layers of bricks and finaly some darker spots for windows openings

cheers
