Default 'Earthquake' movies/examples? - 02-22-2006, 08:03 AM

Hi! I'm searching for examples of 'earthquake-effects' in actual movies,
especially 'splitting a street'. the only movie ive allready found is 'war of the worlds', but this effects suggests, that something is coming out from the deep of the earth.

maybe somebody of you have an idea or suggestions? thanks :)

The movie, volcano had a breaking/cracking ground in it before the lava spewed out... Ummm Also look at Earthquake the movie (1974) Albert Whitlock did the mattes for that movie I think... Umm I can't think of anymore at the moment...

"Earthquake" specifically chose not to show any "ground cracking open"
scenes because the makers felt that that was something that didn't
actually happen during an earthquake.
But you might want to try the 1936 "San Francisco" which has a spectacular
shot of a street splitting apart that was done live. All the effects in that
movie are marvelous, actually.
Also I think the TV movie "Aftershock: Earthquake in New York" has
a sequence with 2 characters in a taxi where the street seems like
it partially collapsed into the sewer below or something. I remember
the street is all dressed to look like that, but I don't remember if you
see it happen or not.

Not quite as good examples as those above but there is the earthquake in the temple at the end of Indiana Jones and the the Last Crusade and the road splits up and swallows Lois Lane and her car at the end of Superman.

Are there any ground cracking moments in Tremors? I can't remember.

rrishe - I didnt even realize that about earthquake I guess, good to know though. Who made "San Francisco" ? I don't think I have seen it and wouldn't mind giving it a view or two :)

I also remember seeing a theme park ride in Universal Studios that was based off a movie I think... I think the ride name was simply "Eathquake". Anyway best of luck.
