I've been putting off posting anything because I'm never satisfied with my stuff but... this is something I did with an image from a stock library. I've no idea where it is or when it was taken?

There's a Before;

And an After;

I still need to learn to paint.[/img]

It's good for video resolution output. Otherwise you will need more details.

My suggestion; only touch those area that you have too.
There are some parts that painting didn't add that much to it.

and the workshop in this forum http://www.mattepainting.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=114&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15
seems to be a good start for practicing matte painting.

hi
I think you should find some other grass samples , because those one are too "copy-paste", it creates bad artifacts
Be carefull with the edges of the castle, they are to soft and blury in some part and too hard in other parts.
The mat line of the 2 little walls in front of the camera are visible ( they should be blended with the grass.

Tip when you are using the stamp tool never use the same area of cloning, if you can sea a patern than its bad, try to paint over wit a brush at very low opacity.

But this his a good start to learn matte painting. :D

Yeah it was a low rez sample from a website and resizing it created a lot of problems.

And absolutely right about the grass, not enough to go around, that's one of the reasons I need to learn to paint better, to fill in those gaps without creating the patchwork quilt look it's got now.

You don't need to be a painter, you just need a good image library. That would be a good opportunity to go out and take pictures. Or use google image search. ;) I would cover up that entire strip of grass with grass from a different image.
