hi
this is a quick mp that i made for a tv movie.
The client came yesterday with the a ref image of an oil plateform, and he wanted the same thing for ...today..*glups*
so after 12 hours of work this is what it came.
Nothing fancy and i know that the shadders needs some improvement
but i think its a good compromize in the --Fast-cheap-Quality--triangle

ohh and i learn a new word "runtime error" :)

Tchook, your work is incredible. Did you model and paint that 3d matte in 12 hours? I hope you billed the project accordingly.

did you use mental ray or just standard maya renderer?
you did textures as well or mainly procedural stuff?

damn quick work, monsieur =)

[edit: i suppose if it's maya3, there is no mental ray, is there? oh well.. ]

Hello Tchook...

Is this considered a matte painting? More like 3d than MP? Anyway it's an amazing job don't get me wrong. esp in 12 hours my god. If matte painters are expected to do such detailed 3d work than I definatly have to kick my ass and advance my 3d skills.
TChook I love your work. Amazing.

thx all

thx
SorryI dont have a composite, they just wanted an oil rafinery in this perspective and in that lighting. The only one you got is the quick comp ive made to see if the objects fits that kind of environment.

thx
i really dont know if you can call it a mp or not. But it was fun doin it an i thought it will be cool to share it with others. :) One thing i know is that 3d can improve my work flow....when im not sinkin into it.

frederic
(trnslation in english)
thx .It depends of the amount of time that you got to make your Uv, and if the camera moves or not. Generally you make textures on your 3d model.
But you can do a light pass and paint in ps. Than you can use your composite as projection material in your 3d software.

merci monsieur
this was done with maya 6.5 and the render engine is arnold.
Ther are no procedural textures, basically you have 5 textures. One is devided in 3 shadders all the same except for the difuse param. This is very useful cause u can enhance the difference between the highlights and the shadows with a flat lighting.

thx
i did that within 12 hours ,yes, and the bill was less than normal, but ive done this to help a friend in trouble. so price is not very important. ;)
