"Hidden", a small village in the middle of nowhere.
I started off with a line drawing in Photoshop 7.
This my first matte, which worked without the use of any photo references. I tried to approach the last chapter of DUSSO's Gnomon DVD Volume I. I hope you like it.
The original is in a 4k-resolution.
Concept linework:

Critiques and comments are very welcome!
Thanks for viewing,

Beautiful,
How long did it take?
I did resize it to %50 in Photoshop and the middle part looks really good.
I would love to see the detail on the house.
I’m not sure about the open sky, It might be better to make it smaller.
And reduce the glow effects.
In the basic shading image, I like the contrast in the middle of the image.
If you keep that contrast in the final version it might be better too.
Looking at the bridge in the back,
I can see the light in left and the shadows in the right.
You might want to reduce the contrast there, or add more of such contrast to the mountain in the middle.
About the middle mountain; now it’s like a cylinder, it would be more interesting to break some part of it,
This way you can add more contrast and show the scale of it. (to see what I mean, try covering the house and see it without the house, it doesn’t look as big)
The last thing is that the green leaves, specially in the right down corner and the beginning of the bridge; instead of changing the main green toward blue, try lean it toward yellow. I think it would be more natural.
Looking forward to see more of your beautiful work.

How long did it take?
The concept and the basic shading I did yesterday evening.
Maybe four to five hours. The final painting I did today within 7 hours, with breaks of course  . I'm not that fast yet!

I would love to see the detail on the house.
This's a detail at 100%, you'll notice my brushstrokes and textures.

I wasn't sure either. I didn't want to set the focus to the background, so I kept it.
And reduce the glow effects.
This surely my fun part

Thanks for the tip, wasn't sure about the right color.
Cheers, Daniel

Good job
For this to be used in a film or video, you should make it more photo realistic.
keep up the good work.
I'm not one to sugar up anything so here goes.
This my first matte, which worked without the use of any photo references.
This is the FIRST mistake. Alway ALways use reference. EVERYBOSY needs to use it Especially a beginner. This piece is great as a lighting study and a conceptual piece. Now get one piece of choice reference(a photo) and study it. Then repaint this with that reference. It'll be much more "real".The refernce will anawewr all questions when it comes to value , color, and materials. Composition , hower, is another beast......

I really love this, its just amazing! So much depth!!!
I think Dusso should pay you, coz im gonna go buy his dvd off the back of this painting, lol!
One thing tho. In the background it is ok coz its further back, but in the foreground, the waterfall seems to be coming from nowhere. Its a really nice touch, but it is a little strange to me. I dont think you can change this now, but something to keep in mind for future maybe?
Please keep doing these!!!
Nick
