A work that's coming along nicely, I used POVRay to do the planet, then used a combination of methods in PS for the Space. A big help were the toot's from Greg Martin's website 'click' (http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/index.html).

I plan to put some kind of ship in this scene but I'm still waiting on the inspiration to flow. Maybe I'll use this as a project to finish learning Blender (or at least get a better grasp of Blender).

Reminds me of my current project :wink: I'm not sure, the planet seems to pop out a bit. Not quite sure exactly what needs to be done to fix it though...

Now that you mention it I think you are right. I'm seeing it from a different monitor now and the atmosphere looks like it's not lighted quite right. I'll fix that next (when I'm not at work, I hate the midnite shift). For some reason all my bright stars are giving me the creeps tonight too. Somehow these things are never complete, are they...

Another question for you guys. I had a decent space scene finished completely on my own, then I was browsing NASA images where I found an image of some nebula and decided to use it as a model for a much better looking scene. How much do you guys use as a guide before you feel like you're cheating?

EDIT: I think I know what makes the planet pop out. On the shadow side, you still have the glowing atmosphere (or whatever). Shouldn't that fade out with the rest?

Dang! I just realized that I did all this new work and resized for the web, saved my working copy first by accident heheh. Oh well, maybe I'll improve it next try. I'm trying to get this scene pretty much complete before I add a ship and characters to it.
