Hi, in this case, you have to use photos references, like the ground, if you want make a mattepainting, like that its just like a sketch, the same for the sky, the color don't match to the rest....you can use a photo too.
NEVER mix BIGS painted parts and photos...because he never can match if you dont have the good "eye" ,the experience and of course the time to complete a traditional matte-painting(like on glass).
Good continuation

Well considering this is in the Work In Progress forum, i think its fine to post the loose sketches (and good to see you starting with sketches rather than photo manipulation!)
The second sketch certainly works better than the first, because in the first sketch the ground wasn't reflecting any of the colour in the sky. In the second version the colour choices look pretty good. There is very little making up the new hills you added though. Be creative with it and add in new rock and plant elements. This will tie it into the photo plate and also help to suggest scale and distance from the camera of the new elements.
Keep it up, nice first posts :)

I like the shape of the mountain on the right. Yet you rounded off the faces too much in your last picture. Keep them "rocky" like on your first post. Also you have chosen an image for the ground which has direct lightning from the left up. This is going to cause you some difficulties when it comes to correctly light the painted areas.
