Hey man cool stuff. Also watched the company demo reel, very impressive. One question about this painting in particular- I saw the making of the with the steps but it seems to skip passed the initial part of the water/flat planet etc. Did you use a 3d render base to begin painting additional details onto?

No, I started from scratch ...
after I finished it I build a simple geometry using extended bicubics inside inferno and then projected some of the main layers over it.
