View Full Version : how camera map in 3d max 6?

Hi, I have seen some tutorials about "camara map" but they are only for "Maya".
My question is: Is there any method to do the same with "3D studio Max 6"? or, do you know if I can be helped by any plugging? Thanks.

Camera mapping is built into 3DS Max 6, and 3DS Max 7 has camera mapping and per pixel camera mapping (even better!)

What you do is bring your material into max and assign it to your geometry as usual. Make a camera and position it where you want the texture to project from. Select the objects and add a "Camera Mapping" modifier, then select your projecter camera and voila, camera mapping!

I will be doing a camera map video tutorial hopefully sometime this weekend that will show you the basic idea of how camera mapping works inside Max. It's a very easy process once you know what is going on; and it's a great way to add loads of detail to your scene. :D Hopefully it will be of some use to you.

So I just uploaded a tutorial outlining the basic procedure using camera mapping for painting mattes and then projecting them back onto your geometry. All in all it's a relatively basic tutorial but it will give you some basics so you at least know how to set it up in Max and your paint package. Further down the road I plan on doing another in-depth tutorial that explores more of the camera mapping features in Max. For the time being this first tut can be found in the tutorials section of my site.

Thanks! I've been using Max 4 for about a year and a half and recently switched to Max 6 and have been wondering/searching for a solution to camera mapping. I'm scoping out the tutorial now :D

At the end of the movie you're saying something about another tutorial, which describes how to animate the scene. Can't find a link though. Any chance you can write down the URL?
