Hey all,

Just saw this on Alp's website this morning - thought I'd pass it on...

Alp is starting up another workshop in April - it will focus on concept art, matte paintings, and 3d projection, and getting your portfolio ready.

I took a matte painting class taught by Alp at Gnomon a year and a half ago, then took his VFX workshop last summer. Prior to that, I had no experience doing matte paintings. Since then, I've worked as a matte painter on 2 feature films, and am currently working on my 3rd.

If you're in the LA area, I highly recommend this workshop -

If you have any questions you'd like to ask a former student, please don't hesistate to PM me.

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks for the heads up Matt. If this was a couple of months later, i might have travelled over to attend. Never mind, im sure it will come around again and ill have another chance if i need it.

By the way, congrats on getting your first few features under your belt!

Hi Matt,

Thanks very much for the info! I always used to ckeck Alp's Workshop site to get an update! I'd really love to get training from Alp! But, hey, it's in LA, California, which is very very far away from Kolkata, India! I wish Alp would have conducted an online workshop!

Thanks for the response, guys -

space-sprayer - thanks for the kind words. The VFX Workshops and the Gnomon classes were a real turning point in my career - I didn't know what exactly I wanted to do before then. Alp was instrumental in making becoming a matte painter seem possible.

kaustavsinha - Yeah, it would be good to do something online - something Alp may consider in the future, but nothing beats hands-on in-person training. Luckily there are DVD's out there now that you can watch no matter where you are. I watched Dylan Cole and Dusso's Gnomon DVD's on a loop for six months... Hahaha... And I'd always learn something new each time...

Thanks again for responding - and keep painting!

Matt

Matt,

Thanks a bunch for your review and more info about Alp's class. I'm currently not in California but I am looking forward to moving there within this year and now you've gotten me really excited about the prospect of taking one of Alp's classes.

Your work is outstanding and I look forward to seeing more of it in the future.
