Hi Im a newcomer. A student.

The following are my latest. I used a photo ref but no photo elements are added. It's a straight digital painting.

If this was a matte painting, how sucessful would it be? Is there anything that I could improve upon?
Please critique. don't hold back if you have something to say about it :)

This is a good painting. I like the colors.

The mountaintops in the back could use more atmospheres to blend with the fog-cloud.
And I think ability of using photo elements correctly and artistically is a must for a matte painter.

One thing you can do is to put an image of a real mountain in front of it and try to blend your mountain with the real ones.

Like the man  said ..... it needs to blend in with the fog. You might also want to add a little more deatil. The trick to a matte painting is not letting the viewer discriminate the painting from a photo art. Love your painting otherwise . Good luck.

If I squint, the picture looks real. Great! But you need to put in hyperrealistic detail to make it a matte painting, if that's your intention. Since it's a high contrast pic, try to concentrate on the sunlit areas, and skimp on the shadow detail. I also feel that you should pay more attention to (the) clouds. They follow visual rules too, in their own way...

However, I can see you are a painter. Keep painting away. You definitely are going in the right direction. More please!

Thank you for your kind reply all. I been away from the computer awhile so I coulden't reply.
Mountains are so challenging to do. Lots [maybe too much] of detail so it's easy to get lost and lose the main form.
Yes I should play around with integrating photo with painting a bit but for now I want to improve on drawing more. Im thinking things will be a bit easier then.
I will post more in the future. Thanks again.
