Hello!

This is my first post here, and how all the first time is special, it also does not cease to be.
This is a recent job I'm doing for a short film "The Orphanage."
Soon be posting my progress.

Thank you!

i know there is alot of discussion on what a matte painting is. this definately isnt one. its a nice digital painting but not a mattepainting

i do think it can be considered as a background art. wonder whats the definition of matte painting in your head. =)

great work man, post the animation when you finish with it.

well since its for an animation it would be a stretch but i guess somehow it might be a mattepainting, but not in the traditional sence

Nice to see the progression, and safe to say this is a matte.

Even though it's for animation it's still a matte/background painting.

It does showcase a creative mind with stylized sketches...
And I liked the animation in your web site. (again very creative as far as being minimalist and stylized)

As for being matte painting...
These days even in the best studios you hear matte painting being refer to something that was "Animation Background" a few years ago.

Looking at "Sin City", "Speed Racer", "300", "Polar Express" and "Beowulf"
is making it hard to define "What is real?" or "What Photo realistic Matte Painting is"
What about the background in "Persepolis"?

If its a background for an animation, then this is no less a matte painting than the stuff that was showcased here a few weeks back from Kung Fu Panda.
I really like the style, its clear that shilst this is a very stylised and simplified background, all the necessary form and lighting has been paid attention to, so i think you did a good job. Look forward to seeing the final thing.

very cool style you've got going there, reminds me of paper mache' a bit.
