Hi everyone.

I recently recieved a possible commission where the client asked for a DPS matte painting.

My question is: What the heck does "DPS" mean?
I´m still fresh with this stuff and never heard of the term.

Any help is highly appreciated.

I would imagine that the P stands for projection. Not sure about the D and S though. Digital Projection Style?

Man u could makethis stand for so many things, Digitally Projected Shot, Digitally Photo-extended Set, Digital Photo Shop matte painting, plus the above, but they might be way off, so if you cant get a clear answer, i think you are best just explaining that DPS isnt a term you have come across before and could they clarify. Im sure they would be fine with that as long as you can do the work afterwards :)

they might refer to DPX (32 bit painting)
But I think it's totally fine to "ask them".

Here's an acronym finder. I didn't see anything that fit, but I was fond of "Doggie Protective Services" Is that something like the witness protection program only for dogs?

Does it refer to a file extension? I believe there's an editing system that uses *.dps (Leitch dpsVelocity)... just a guess.

Ok, just thought it was some well known matte painting term everyone knew about except me. :)

I´ll just ask them what they mean. Probably the simplest.

I appreciate the help though. Thanks guys. :)

Maybe the client is asking for a Double Page Spread? That‘s the only DPS I have ever heard of before. But that relates to a page layout rather than a Matte for film use.
