my 3d software is 3ds max, photoshop is of course the main application and after effects or combustion for compositing,

Hey James...

I see your still creating exceptional work! Those paintings are just as good as the first time I saw them.

...the very top one, I always had a thing for the version before that, without the blue hue. Great nonetheless.

Hey james,

Great work.
The third image is one of the firt images I saw as matte painting.
I can't remember when I saw it. But that image was one of the first I would show my friends to say what is matte painting.
Keep up the good work.

Nice to see you here pal
As they said before, your mattes are awsome. After I saw some of your work (long ago) I started to get very interested in Digital Mattes. Heh, you showed me first Dusso's stuff :D damn we're getting old
I hope to see some fresh stuff soon :P the first one is new? because I missed it, nice one, great atmosphere.

Your work is great. The amount of 3d detail and textures…
I have to say though, the atmosphere in your latest works, looks really good.
I also like the lights on stones in your night shot.

Nice work, James!
Are any of these for productions, or are they personal work.
BTW, my first time posting, and I'm glad that this site was created.

hey guys there you go, some new matte paintings I had there, first one is for a video clip we did , and it's a basic matte painting and comp , as you can see the source plate was a really boring one, no elements that tell the audience about army or something about a war ( tank and tower made in 3ds max ), and the second one is for a feature film , they wanted a more interesting hellish door than the actual filmed but not being too much fantastical (only photoshop) let me know what you think.

do i recognise that knight over the greenscreen from a shake training dvd? All very nice work, your understanding of lighting is clearly excellent!

thanks for you reply anthony that knight is part of a tv comercial we did for a local festival, and it's not the same in the shake training dvd at least it shouldn't be there . I have some more samples I 'll keep posting

Hi jaime
good to see you here.
I like the maya city very much. Very moody

Very nice work, especially the Mayan city (for imagination) and the checkpoint/gate (for realism).

A personal favourite is the candlelit catacomb; those lions are very cool.

I really like the first set (the vinyards are particularly convincing) and the "hellish door" work really enhances the drama of the shot.

The fort gate, however, almost seems out of place along side the rest. The signs look very flat and the edges seem a bit sharp in relation to the original plate. Also, the top sign almost appears to be in shadow on a side that should be catching the light, and the post holding up the signs doesn't appear to be lit the same as the fence posts.
As for the tank, it would probably be crushing the fence if it were in that position and the shadow under the back of the tread doesn't seem to corralate with the low angle of the sun.

Anyway, maybe this one was a quick assembly compared to the others, which are really impressive. Thanks for sharing.

Have fun.

Wonderful work!

I liked the London scene first time I saw it in Expose though it did make me smile as although I know it is supposed to be London, it is very stylized. I keep expecting some cowboys to appear round the corner.

I look forward to seeing more of your work

Great work James.
The checkpoint works great and the Lion gate integrates perfectly.
Aztec/mayan piece rocks.
