first attempts at matte painting (nhm)

after seeing all of the great work that has come forward for the competition. I have been inspired to try and create my own matte painting based off of the national history museum shot. But I'm really not that good of a matte painter yet so I'm taking my time, and trying to go through all the right steps. but here is the original shot, and here is my clean plate. I didn't spent to much time on the right side because I'm going to be covering it up. I'm planing on making this look like the inside to a fantasy structure. but here is the original shot

I'm still working on the set extension, but I have taken a break because I'm having some pretty bad problems with my perspective. but here it is.

What kind of problems? You have a decent enough image to be working from with a basic two-point perspective. All you need to do is have a base layer canvas with your horizon line and vanishing point established, and then make your adjustments from there.

Of course, if you don't know how to establish your perspective guidelines, you will be having lots of "pretty bad problems with perspective..."
