I know the quality of your portfolio can sometimes compensate for OTJ experience, but I also know that portfolio pieces, while visually top notch, may be produced at such a snail's pace, that once in the actual job environment, the lack of a good production speed can become all too evident all too soon.

Can anyone provide a rough "guesstimate" of what would be considered a "reasonable" amount of time to create an "average" mattepaint?

A visual example would be nice, just to show the level of detail that 'X' number of hours should be expected to produce.

Thanks!

This is just based on my experience,
For feature film 3-10 days
stuff like this;

For TV series 2-5 days
like this

TV spots commercials, ASAP (sometimes 2 a day)
like this

Simple Set Extensions, 1-2 days
like these

Hope it helps

Thank you SO very much!

Yes, those are WONDERFUL examples and timelines.

I am one of those obsessive types who can get carried away detailing things that will never be seen, which drags out my time into a week for something that should take an average of a couple of days.

You've helped, in that it will be a bit easier to push myself to stay on track now.

Thats really interesting to be able to compare times against images, puts them more into a production context.

Reminds me of the "olden days" when everyone used to put the render time for 3D projects.

Nice work too!
