Been working with methods for painting firs and pines and used this old painting as a backdrop.

The background was originally a test for to see if rendered terrain models could serve as shading cues when painting foliage canopies. But, I was so happy with the way the fir detail came out that here it is again. Compositing in a citadel or something would sure add some drama to an otherwise pedestrian scene.

(No photography. Water and underlying hillside are renders.)

It does look realistic.

Adding a couple of real trees images in between might help to break the patterns.
And make it even more realistic.

Nicely done.

Very nice work DenB,

What software did u render this out of?

I love the atmosphere in the shot, very good work!

I would try to bring in some live action element and paint some of the repetion out of the hillside.

Very nice work!

Thanks. I was just happy with the fir results. The image itself, other than the realism anyway, isn't much.

For the 2D part, Painter mostly although some PS as well. The water and underlying hillside model are Bryce 4.

Daylight is one of the harder atmospherics to handle, at least for me.
