Here is one of the matte paintings I did for Racing Stripes. Lots of the racetrack shots had to be modified, because the establishing shot showed the whole track high angle down from a hill and was pretty much a full matte painting. Except for the rail in the foreground, which I copied and pasted to extend it, the rest of the picture is made up. I didn't have any pics with the tents from an usable angle and with acceptable lighting, so, given the simplicity of the structures, painting them directly was easier and faster. Also, there was a slight motion blur (not shown here), which allowed me to get a little sloppy and impressionistic.

nice work. I havn't seen the movie yet, how is the final shot put together, as far as motion goes.

Hey,
I believe I tracked a couple shots where your work was being used. Nice stuff, keep it up!! This show was really fun to work on, I learned a lot from some very talented people. I have been working on a couple pieces of my own but still too embarased to post them. Maybe sometime in the future.
