Responsibilities:
Digital painting of models for shaders, textures, patterns and surface details
Create and understand the uses of texture maps for 3D models
Fully understand how displacement, specularity, and specialty maps will affect an object for shading. Use those to create depth, richness and complexity
Take direction from Director, Production Designer and Art Director
Resourceful approach to gathering reference - using a variety of mediums
Artistic flexibility; versatility, ability to match/adapt painting style to suit a range of production designs
Creative problem solving
Background, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required at Minimum:
Bachelor's degree in Fine Art, Industrial Design or Painting preferred
2+ years CG production experience (ideally within a feature film and/or games environment)
Strong design and color skills; a solid sense of sculptural detail
Expertise in Mac OS and Photoshop required
Basic understanding of Maya, UNIX/LINUX and Illustrator
Knowledge of traditional art skills - color, lighting and composition
Capacity to work collaboratively with the technical team
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present ideas in a clear concise manner
Ability to complete paint projects within a fast paced, dynamic, deadline driven environment, according to expectations and budgets
Strong organizational and follow through skills
Submission Guidelines:
Please submit a sample flatwork portfolio (no VHS and/or DVD demo reels) demonstrating detailed digital painting experience. Your portfolio should include:
Clear color copies of texture maps, displacement or bump passes and specular maps followed by their ultimate look on a rendered character, set or prop. Its great to see how the texture maps look on a fully rendered and lit model. Small texture maps are often difficult to discern. If thats the case, please increase the size of your images, but remember to let us know the original resolution so we can take that into account.
Screen grabs and/or renders are also encouraged.
Include a shot breakdown, if applicable. Did you do any modeling, UV mapping, lighting, shading, or solely texture painting?
