First let me say hello to everyone. I have enjoyed reading this site recently and felt compelled to join in.
This is my first try at a matt painting, all done in photoshop. I probably will use the image minus the knight. in After effects to create a pan up. And put some smoke effects on later.

Just wanted to know what you think. before I go to far.

It took about 4 hours to get to here.
Look forward to your comments.

Hi tude.I think that from a first look this is a very nice matte. But
i would like to see a more deteail on the base rock. It's too dark and i also can not see well the knight.(i am blind! ha!).What about "yellowing" the windows?Anyway it looks good to me.I am waiting for the complete animation.

Thanks for the reply.
I have added more detail and taken out the lamppost from the sky image....
If I have time I will look at the smoke and fire today.

nice work !
But the castle don't realy match with the sky,
add more orange (sun color) to the castle and gound.

I'm seeing a good deal of repeating pattern on the castle and rock walls lower down, presumably from a clone tool...try to break that up a bit. Also, since the sun is setting in back of and to the left of the castle (or so it seems)...the value of the castle should logically come down a bit.

The base of the image also seems a bit too contrasty. And the fire doesn't seem to be really illuminating the area around it.

Overall good progress thus far, though!

Also, there seems to be a problem with one of your mattes, the one
outlining the edge of the castle. You've done a color correction to the
sky, but your castle matte is out of position, WAY off to the right, creating
a silhouette of the castle shape in the sky. Does that make sense?

Thanks for the advice.

yes you are probably right. I was thinking that the sun is setting behind the castle to the left, so the rear would be more blue, purple. But I will have a look and see.

Yes I will correct that and look at the other areas you mentioned.

I am not sure what you mean, looking at it I think the alpha for the castle is a bit rough, but not sure what you mean about way off to the right.

Thanks for your advice. This is my first attempt and I want to learn.
can only get better......
