shadows problem

Hi to all.
I am new here and just starting to produce something better then the other works i have done.
I have a little problem, am sure very easy to solve, but i have not yet found the right solution.

I have a n ice pic of a group of houses in the desert, that i want to switch to a night scen.
The problem is about how to hide the sharp shadows from the sun on the house...
I have tried with the burn tool, but when i low down brightness and contras after desaturated the image, tthe result is not quiet good...
I know that the moon is giving strong shadows, but if the night will be a stromy night??? :)

Hope someone can help me, in the meanwhile i go on try some experiments..

Meyby try to use Stamp Tool to hide shadows with opacity about 50%-70%. If you use it it'll be a really nive looking effect. :)

Try using a curves adjustment layer. Use it to get the shadows looking the same as the lit areas and use the layer mask to just have it apply to the shadow areas.
