Rising Sun Pictures, a specialist film-visual-effects house, is looking for a skilled matte painter to join their team.
RSP has collaborated with the industry’s top film makers on award winning films such as “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”, “Blood Diamond” and “Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire.” Having recently completed work on “The Ruins” and “The Seeker: The Dark is Rising”, we are currently working on Baz Luhrmann’s “Australia”, “Wolverine”, “Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince” and “Speed Racer.”

This role will suit an artist who is comfortable in a variety of implementations, be it 2D backdrops, textured elements/fixes or complex 2.5D/3D projections. At times, you may also be asked to learn new proprietary software. This position will also allow you to develop your knowledge of photography and to hone your experience in image library research.

• Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop including file management (file format, bit depth, resolution) is essential.
• Thorough knowledge of advanced matte-painting techniques including colour space, digital-paint techniques, photography with an emphasis on composition, depth, lighting and colour.
• A good understanding and application of perspective in the creation of the 2.5D and 3D digital environments.
• Ability to take artistic and technical direction positively to meet a client’s brief, and work well within a team environment, or in a leadership role. To that end, have excellent communication skills with a professional and positive attitude under the pressure of tight deadlines and changing briefs.
• Ability to take responsibility for the timely delivery of the requested work and to delegate confidently to junior members of the team.
• Working knowledge of the basic principles of 3D texture projections in Maya and basic knowledge of compositing in Shake is desirable.
