I thought I'd spend time sketching or at least learning how to create concept art for matte paintings. Comments welcome.

I like the mountains and the layout, but I doubt any village on that particular spot.... Perhaps move it to the side of a mountain?

Much much better imho! It looks like a frozen lake / waterfall... I like the two different levels a lot.

At what resolution did you make the sketch? Did you reduce the size for posting?

I like the sketch. You might want to look at the recent movie, "King Arthur". The shot reminds me alot of when they cross a lake in the mountains. Might be good to look at reference wise & how you could make yours stand out alittle different.
Just a thought.
