Hi the community!

I was wondering how much a movie production is actualy paying for a matte painting, just standard one, a "still" no camera projection

is anyone have an idea on that?

Thanx

The general rule of thumb is dont ask what people get paid... forums like cgtalk ban questions like this. But with that said if anyone would like to give a ballpark of what say per hour / per project basis of what and avg matte painter may make and your comfortable about telling then be my guest.

Though not many have answered these types of questions.

Hi Riktor

I didnt know that Cgtalk banned those kind of question  ...and i must admit I was not sure to receive any feedback from it... still i have absolutly no idea how much a matte painting is worth...

anyway keep in mind that i'm not asking the salary of a person in particular
but generaly speaking i thaught that there could be some kind of convention...

Hmmmm....

Did you try <Search>?

If you did, you could have found THIS (http://www.mattepainting.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1654&highlight=union+rates)

It's a little out of date, but it's probabably all the info you'll be able to get, I'm afraid.

Remember not all stills are equally difficult, either. If all you're doing is a sky rep, and it boils down to pretty much just editing a photo, then it's not going to take you very long, and hence you can't charge that much for it.

Take care

Hey Alex

No I didnt try the search but I tried to google it but I found nothing interesting ...That working agreement is not up todate but it gives the idea and I'm sure that ILM is a good reference

So this answer my question !

Thanx!

I could be wrong, but I think the biggest factor in pay would depend on if the work is being made as "work for hire" or as something else...
