Hello! Call me yello, and here are my first three matte paintings. I am 3D major, but my Maya 4 teacher said I should try matte painting and well, I will say that I love it a lot! If you can give me any pointers or tips that I can do to get better I would appreciate it! Thanks for looking.

Below is the plate that I started with on my first one, I wanted to do something very simple and then move up as I get the hang of it.

This is the second one and I wanted to come up with my own structures. This one was the most fun of the three, I have a lot of detail in the image that doesn’t show up because of the compression to JPEG

This last one was the hardest one of them all, I tried to do a night scene, and well, it is really hard to do a night scene. ^_^

Well, that’s it! All of the buildings and other elements are painted in, I didn’t have a lot of photography to work with, but I found this site and the resources with all the image websites and that will help a lot! I would like to keep up matte painting, and try some 20-45 minute exercises that I saw in another thread. Thanks again for any help/tips/critique you can give!

High Res (they are huge) images, if they dont come up for you then i ran ouf of bandwidth (free image hoster)

Hello Yellochevy02 and welcome on Mattepainting.org !

I think you posted in the wrong section, but anyway: What a great work !!
I think it is truly amazing for your first try at matte painting!
Dis you only used brushes or placed 3D objects in?
On the second one, the background is maybe a little too sharp !
The plates you used are really great because the are old scanned photos, I find it interesting to work on such materials.

If you're searching for ideas or challenge, see that thread :

Keep working! I like your job ( and also your work on DeviantArt )
