I have a Nikon D50 with two Nikkor lenses 18-55mm and 80-200mm. It shoots 6.1 Megapixels which equates to 3000 pixels wide at 240 dpi which is good enough for a plate. I also understand some studios like Double Negative use Canon Digital Rebels. Really an SLR body camera with 6 megapixels or higher is what you want. Check http://www.dpreview.com/ for some comparisons, you mainly want a camera with low digital noise or at least even noise in RGB channels and that shoots good pictures.

Yeah its about the same as the D50, and that specific model of Canon has been used in production before. As for the Auction, if your looking for something on Ebay be careful. I thought I was gonna get a great deal for my D50 and get a case and 3 lenses, two tripods, 1gig memory car, plus a bunch of extras but Im glad I didnt buy it off ebay. Alot of those cheap camera sellers on ebay sell lenses that will fit on the camera but wont be fully functional. For example my Nikon requires lenses with computer chips in them and only the original stock lens actually had it on the ebay deals, the others would mount but the camera couldnt use them... so just be sure to research the "good" deal before you buy it.

I just got an email from Nikon about a D40x, its a smaller more point and shoot version of the D50 but its 10.2 Megapixels as opposed to the D50s 6.1. Just though I would throw that in there.
