From scenic painting to matte painting

Hi guys,

The citiscape is a selfpromotional piece, which helped me to get matte painting work. It's an aerial shot of a city, overpainted in Photoshop.

I've also included a pic of a painted landscape (vinyl) for the TV-series Roswell, which I painted back in the days, when I worked as scenic artist. I learned valuable lessons there on how to paint architecture and landscapes. The devil is in the details, and in traditional scenic painting, the details are big.

wow what can I say , your work is awesome really like it a lot, the first one as a concept is great and no to mention the matte painting but talking about light values it is one of the greatest I've seen there the detail is insane , the other one is , mmmm well no more words to say it is fantastic we hope to see more of those matte paintings I'm sure you will be one of the best around the world

I LOVED painting scenic backings (back in the day). I did a lot
of backings for miniature sets. I only did one BIG one (30' high
by 240' wide) and didn't like that very much. I'm afraid of
heights! :-) Doing high quality scenic backings is a GREAT
preparation for doing matte paintings. A good scenic backing
sits there and just looks REAL.

I will post some new paintings soon. It's hard to do anything while working overtime on a movie and with a 4 months old son (the greatest!)
