Something that I have been working on for my demo reel. Don't like the way some of the smoke looks. Trying to rework it, but im using particles for the smoke, so taking some time to get the movement right.

I like the destruction!
but the damage should be darkened a bit on the buildings because of occlusion and burned materials.
The smoke is too translucent also should have more texture...just work on those and this 'll look super!

Really work on those particles and fire because that's what's really going to sale this picture. If they look like they really exist and Vancouver is really burning away, then you've done your job well.
Particles are bloody well tricky to get the hang of. Consider how smoke is and the different materials fires burn off. Some particles can range in colour, to intensity, to turbulence, and many other things depending on the fuel that's feeding the fire. Also fires can have various ranges of intensity too depending again on what's fueling them. You might want to put some fires *inside* the buildings because at the moment it looks as if they are just stuck on there. That way it would feel as if they are either on the outside or inside coming out of the building imo.
Other than that, I dig this picture. Love anything like this! Keep it up.

Nice work. Definitely work on that fire though. Also, smoke doesn't rise in a strict pattern like you showed, it more envelopes the area around it rather than going straight up in a near perfect line. Also work on the lighting. There are some really light spots, which takes away from the overall dark mood of destruction. Awesome work though, just needs some final touches!
