View Full Version : Ross's Boston in Flames

Dont know if this deserves its own thread but since i can seem to find a suitable thread for it, here goes.
Few hours work so far,
a bit of hue shifting and shadow adding to start with.
Couple of grads to lift the colours and set the tone i wanted.
added building destruction.
Painted flames n smoke and related highlights on the building
roughly modelled and rendered an Airbus A320 to import into the image.
painted in a rough outline of a guy falling, then added highlights and shadows to him.
Top flames are still too saturated but i'm using a quick grad overlay to bring the colours up. I'll fix them later.
Still plenty to do..such as adding an element of pandemonium. Thats with an 'e' not an 'a' Although panda-monium would be interesting!
Comments and crits......

I like where this is going. When you get to doing the lights in the windows they may look good with a green/blue cast to set off the yellow/orange scheme. It seems to me that the flames are almost too indistinct. Maybe it should be HOT up in that corner.

Hi Ross. Love the work you've done.
Very nice flames, and the guy falling is like the cherry on top of the cake. Keep up the good work. No critics from my end.

Noel B - The Boston haters are down to a challenge set in another thread by Riktor : http://www.mattepainting.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1861&highlight=boston+challenge
Made a start on some of the street lights, going with a blue-ish colour like Speculart suggested.
I've removed the bottom grad overlay while i'm working on it.
I've also extended the bottom of the canvas and sketched in some stuff to fill the area for now. I realised i didnt have enough space for the people i intend to put in.
Desaurated the falling guy cos he was sitting out of the canvas to much, think the brightness might still need dropped a bit *pun fully intended*
The buildings on the right need some shadow added to the back but i'm going one step at a time while i'm still focused enough...

Not sure if anyone is watching but here's a few more updates.
Added a comms tower on top of a building in the distance to re-enforce the mobile phone virus theme.
Added the guy in the bus shelter and the light on the bus shelter. Got some ideas for the poster its gonna highlight.
Any comments appreciated...

I'd have to say this one is turning out real well, I would like to see maybe a glow around the flames a bit though. Excellent work so far though!

Hey there Rossco1111. I meant the lights in the windows of the building, and a light tending towards the green you know how fluro looks at night, often through tinted windows in those buildings. The guy fits in much better. How about a massive lump of just fallen debris in the forground!! Looks great
