Hi all,

THis is my first attempt at matte painting... please give feedback.
This is only the color sketch. I wanted to try to somewhat reproduce Church's "Twilight in the Wilderness" as an exercise, using the pluginz.com contest for context.

planned are:

warm rim light on rocks, etc.
less purple haze in spots (?)
more defined river, better water texture and reflection of sky
more interesting rock features in distance

thanks for any comments,

Brian

Thanks for the comments guys... I have still been working on this, and it looks very different now.

Still a sketch. I'm still working on cloud composition.
Then sky lighting, working sky tones into the ground,
getting more variation in the mountains.
Then, making it into a matte.

Hallelujah. Great colors man, love em. Is that water between the rocks?

Thanks! kinda nerve-wracking getting your first steps out there.

Yes, that is intended to be water between the rocks. I need work on
the reflection after locking the sky down more.

thanks again,

Brian

Wow LaFrance.....very nice progress. For the clouds just remember that they too go back into perspective. Show a little more size variation perhaps. The colors are great. The foreground shape on the bottom right corner seems a bit strange. Doesn't seem to fit very well.

Thanks for the feedback, Roop.
I agree totally. THe rock on the lower right is just whacked.
And I'm still not really happy with the clouds. I wanted something simpler,
but I think I went too far, and more perspective would help a lot. I'll update
asap.

thanks again, everyone, for the comments. It really helps.

Wow, Procon, can't believe you remember this! I never did finish it...
still working on my drawing/painting/matte painting skills, though. I just can't post anything I've been working on :(

Zeronex: sorry, I let my subscription lapse to the site that was holding the image...

Still lurking in the background. I'll post again when I have something worthy.

thanks

Brian
