View Full Version : "Urban Oasis"

My second attempt at matte painting. I was inspired to do this after watching an almost isolated "patch" of wood in the middle of Lisbon, my city. It did not seem like a park and so made it even more misterious. I really love Lisbon and this is a tribute to those romantic parks you find in cities where time seems to stand still and one can relax and forget the world around us. But what makes it even more enchanting is the ever present skyline of the city, far away, that reminds us of where we really are.

Here's to you Lisbon...

About the painting process. I started from a photo I had taken in the afternoon and went on from there. Gradually I started adding other elements, both photographed and painted. The light direction changed over the process and the whole ambience aquired a different feel. In the end almost everything was painted dropping the original photographed elements. Here is the WIP thread at CGTalk: WIP Thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=3518761#post3518761)

Well, I hope you like it.

Thanks, man...I thought this site was dead. Any kind of comment be it good or bad is most welcome.

Ha, sometimes it seems dead. But, Im on here all the time at school, and every so often someone will reply.

I only didn't reply as i already gave comments on CGsociety's matte painting forum. However, i'm pretty sure i haven't seen the new sky colours, and i must say they look great. That and the light behind you big building (combined with the fact that you shrunk the big building down) looks fantastic.
I - like tightpantsarecool - am always on here at college.

I like the execution of the sky on your second pic - nice work. Given the position of the sun, you'd never ever see clouds like that in real life, though, for obvious reasons. So.. yeah. It doesn't look real. (the first one does, though - really nice piece! :))

I like the color in the sky in the 2nd pic, but I feel the first one is more realistic looking to me.
