What program did you do the ship in or is it an image?

I used a solid grey ship from a 3d program called Vue d'esprit then painted(rust and markings) and shaded the rest by hand in photoshop ... No filters.. :D

I agree I'd say add some more edges with a light brush to your ship and create a kind glare from the metal. I don't see the pond, it looks like a sand pit from a golf course, though that could be the assoication of the green grass next to it.

Im no expert, but I dont like it. I think the ond should have darker water, and there should be a glare on the ship. And, why is the tree blue?

Its called a work in progress jackass hence the name of the forum page.... i think the site you were looking for is www.paintshoppro.net.. (http://www.paintshoppro.net..). this site is for the big boys son ... go play in the sand box and i'll call you when its nap time..

Let's calm down, if you were upset about the way the critique was handled then return a statement in the matter in which you desired. "Do unto others as they would do unto you."

Tightpantsarecool, this is a friendly communtiy where we give constructive criticsm in tasteful manner. I know your new but treating other people with respect is a societal norm. If you have questions about how to constructively critique then PM me or view some of the other criticsms that people give and try to ask yourself what you would think if you were commented on in same manner.

Hey Noel,

Aside from earlier comments made, I am glad to see you posting your progress. We can all learn something from one another here I think.

Just some things I picked up on...

1. With the grass on the ship, and at the bottom of the ship, try to add a little more color variation (mainly add a few dark shadows. A tiny bit of color will go a long way.

2. This next problem is something I think all new people have... The lighting. I suck at it for sure, but to comment on your matte, I would say to try to figure out a light source and think about how the light will cast shadows on the scene objects. Once you get this down you will have an easier time showing a well lit scene.

3. How things are combined/integrated in the scene is another part to possibly look at. You have made good progress on the ship so far.

Keep it up, I would like to see how far you can take this one. I hope I helped some. If your in need of a good lighting book, there is a link in the book references here at mattepainting.org. I have the book and it is very nice and helpful even though I am still not a master... :(

Few points. I think the blue tree needs to be color corrected. I would then look to adding more edges on the ship (define it more). I would maybe add some burn and distress marks to the ship. Also the ship is not casting a shadow and I think that would definitely help you here. Hope the suggestions help.
