hey guys I just did some changes to the image thanks to the comments you've done I painted some perspective over some buildings to better match the scene I added a little more painted details over the front tower and I put a haze to the top of the image to make it look moody ,I painted some highlits to the buildins and if you see the back buildings have now some color over them , also I added a little film grain to it I think it looks better what do you think?

Thats just amazing...

You got so much drama and storytelling in your images... if you told me this was for starwars 3 i would believe it... the quality is that high... cool!

Could you btw give us a little 'making of' of how you chose your elements and how you made the composition...

hey james, nice one.
I think there are some problems with the light matching though...There's something that bothers my eye but I can't really tell what it is.
Good job anyway ;)

ya I love the style, about the light thing that Max mentioned I think the left buildings/temples is lit differently from the clouds and rest of the pictures that's why.

It seems they are being lit more from the front where as the clouds and other buildings indicate they light from back more. Also those buildings have much more saturation in color compared to the further buildings covered in mist, maybe can lower the left buildings saturation or higher the far back ones too?

Other than that it's great! I love the waterfalls =)

thanks for your feedbak guys , I did this still from scratch whit lots of photos, some of them inspired me to do the mood , particulary the saturation and depth control is taken from photo reference and of course I always add my touch in each matte painting ( not precisly photorealistic ) but it has to do more whit art, feeling , etc ) I will show some expamples photos which helped me building this ( this are just a few photos tha help me whit the main buildings and falls details )

This is a sweet composition.
When the base of the painting is right, you can easily get away from small flaws.

Looking forward to more wonders like this.

Thanks for the inside info and the source pics.

I disagree on stuff like the lighting and saturation, I think they all work fine. The only thing technically wrong I can see is the perspective of the source images.

The camera angle viewing the waterfalls is slightly DOWNWARDS, whereas the angles on all the buildings are slightly UPWARDS as they are taken from ground level.

It's most noticible on the buildings on the Right, in the Middle Distance, and even then it took me a while to spot what the problem was.

Basically excellent stuff. Thanks again.

i found it... pretty cool, imaginative, really good integration stuff, etc...
but your perspective sucks!

Hello Jamesvfx,

That is a truly amazing shot! It would be fun to see it moving in a motion picture! I really want to see more of your work on this site!

I would have to agree about the perspective of building set in the right middle ground.

This does show the caution and discernment needed when using photographs in one's work.

The buildings on the left work well because they appear to be above the horizon line and the original view is looking up at the buildings. The right building and mound are below the horizon line. One solution is to run vanishing points out to the horizon and repaint the building. The other solution would be to raise the buildings to height where its perspictive works.

Do note, however, that raising the building (at its present size) in the painting would imply that it is further in the distance and would probably need more aerial perspective.

I hope this will help.

Best wishes!

David

thanks dstipes your tips are cool and right , yeah I knew about the perspective problems for some buildings but I never had the time to fix'em anyway I'll leave this as it is , it was just for practice . thanks again dstipes , and I would like this to be a movie but is impossible to get waterfalls footage or realistic cg waterfalls would take lot of time
