Good plates - where to get from?

Hi,

starting a painting I need a good plate and now I wanna know where you get the stuff?
I have a digital cam but prefer painting than shot a foto... :roll:

usually when i shoot plates, i have an idea in mind for a matte painting. I usually use a digital camera to either shoot on a green screen or do it with live action so i can have realist lighting to base my painting off of. I like to shoot it live because it gives you something to composite and take your shot even farther than just a matte painting and make it like it was all photographed on the same day with the same camera.

Other than that just take a photo, if you want to build a demo reel with some compositing then shoot live action and roto, or key your plates....

one more thing, start with a photo then paint and combine photos to get what you want, dont be constriced by the photos you use!

yeah finding a good photo to get inspired by can be a search, but check out the free photo posting sites, and try to get a highrez one.

best to find a good phototographer so you have something quality to work with.

Thx for the links... building up my last matte painting (blue city) I took stuff from Internet but this often isn't so useful because of the low resolution. I have a 5 Megapixel Cam (Olympus E20-P) but the german landscape surrounding me don't work :cry:

yeah stock.xchng looks cool, I guess I should upload some stuff. I dont have too much, but I'm taking more pics all the time so I'll add some when I can.
