Here is a day for night i made for the yaris car.
I worked on 16 different shots in this ad, all shoted by day
Basically there was a lot of cleaning with 2 images they gave me (erase the car, people etc...
Then came the background foreground restoring for camera proj.

I detail that if you want too.
you can find some movies on my website too. but for other shots
hope you like it.

yeee way cool man!
I've seen the >mov file for this one and I have a question, why did you map those on 3D objects ? I mean , it's not easyer to use the layers in a compositing software?
cheers.

I dont know where you seen the movie i havent post it yet

There is camera movement (traveling forward) and ,as we are going into the street, each object as a different "movement". So you need to do it in 3d.
You can do it in a 2d software but he will required much more time and layers
In 3d there is only 3 layers...
one for the walls and the streets which are mapped on a cube
and two for the small objects(windows, lights, barrels, climatizer etc...

Great job as always,
I was just wondering what did you use to model that?

And I also want to know how long did it take to do this one.

I t was modeleed with maya.

For le louvre i spend like 3 weeks with a lot of test (cam-proj/uv texturing).

so basicly you model the buildings then render with a simple white shader and then paint over in photoshop...after this one you just asign a camera projection of the *.psd over the polygons. am I right? if not please enlighten me :D

Awsome work! I have a lot of respect for your sir... (or is it madam?)

Yes please enlighten us with your knowledge and skills. I know how to do Photogrammetry... and the technique you use looks a lot like it... How did you get al that detail for those plates into the 3d camera projection? Do you unwrap the plates into textures and then model the geometry and project your textures on it...?

Respect...

Thx
All the steps here are important.
First the two pictures (original pictures 1 and 2)
This are the only document i had to make the matte painting (+ the plate with the car and the far background from a previous shot) .

Clean Backround
This is done after several hours of painting, stamps etc in photoshop.
Meaning that i have to erase the car, the guy with the hat , the guy with the finger in the nose and the working crew etc + the building in the back that they dont want.

Flat backround
This step is for cam proj purpose. Also done in ps with lot of painting patches etc....some area are oversampled but the car will cover it so we dont care.
I had to get rid of everything that is not flat. Open windows, climatizer, the huge emergency stairs on the right, the neon signs, and the big barrels.

( iknow that the edges of windows and the water tubes are not flat but they are like "flat").

Day for night mate painting
Lots of painting to dark areas and light others. Tty to start with the highlights and the ncast shadows
CAMERA PROJ 1 AND 2
In maya you create a camera with the image the "flat backround" as an image plain.
with a cube you try to match the camera withe the "geometry" of the picture. When you are happy with it you create a shader with a (as proj)
file and attach the camera to it. Now you can map the cube with the projected file.

Duplicate your camera and attach the clean background to it(image plain)
Now you can start to "model" basic shapes for windows climatizer etc
and create a shader and assign to the objects you have modeled.

create another camera with a pass and travel in the street.
The limitation of this , is the distance you are traveling. Small distances
works long distances are more difficult cause you have to deal with the picture definition.

Final compose
its much like a background foreground compose with rotoshape of everything but i didnt do it.

Tchook... thank you

Very clear and very awsome... You should thinking about making some tutorials, because you one of the few cg-ers that can explain well. :)

I have checked your website and it almost as big as a novel. Looked at every aspect and after 1 hour was fineshed with it... inspiring...
